Abstract

Emergency evacuation schemes : planning, simulation and management. Emergency situations may happen everywhere, caused as they are by a wide range of possible incidents or disasters. Emergency situations can induce large flows of refugees, people that need to be evacuated to a save haven. In order to ensure safe and efficient transportation out of endangered areas traffic models can play an important role; in the selection of evacuation routes, in the preparation of evacuation plans using scenarios and game simulation techniques and, during the evacuation, in supervising and controlling the evacuation process. In this paper the application of traffic simulation models is investigated in the context of the characteristics of the emergency situation we are dealing with. (Author/publisher)
