Abstract

This report explores the safety, use, and condition of non-Interstate rural roads in the United States. It analyzes rural traffic accidents resulting in fatalities, from 1999-2003. The report also examines the measures that some states are taking to increase rural highway safety. Finally, it offers recommendations aimed at decreasing rural traffic fatalities.
