Abstract

A programming system for traffic lights is described which is based on minimization of waiting time for all arriving vehicles per unit of time. A method of calculation is presented for the switching of programmes. Results of an application in practice in Aachen are presented, with comparison of waiting times. Expansion of this model from a single intersection to a whole street is envisaged.
