Abstract

Have you ever wondered how decisions are made about transportation? How do government officials decide where to put a bus stop, sidewalk, or bridge? How are these and other transportation decisions made? And how can you make sure your opinions are heard by the right people? The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and the Federal Transit Administration (FTA)–agencies of the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT)–prepared this guide to answer those questions. This guide is here to inform you how the transportation decisionmaking process uses your input to create a safer, more efficient transportation system that supports your community.
