Abstract

Whenever new technique is introduced, it is important to find out whether the results matched expectations and whether there were any unforeseen effects. This definitely also applies for ITS which has become increasingly common in modern traffic. When planning the introduction of an ITS application, evaluation therefore should be included as an obligatory component. In order to facilitate and support the assessment of ITS installations, practical guidelines have been produced. The guidelines include a stepwise description of different evaluation activities, illustrated with simple checklists and pitfalls. It also includes sections with short method descriptions and certain basic facts that should be considered in connection with methods, selection and statistics.
