Abstract

Annual costs associated with installation and maintenance of small highway sign supports are usually a significant portion of an agency's annual expenditures. It is therefore incumbent upon responsible officials to evaluate the cost-effectiveness of available support systems before a selection is made. Guidelines and analysis procedures are presented to aid in the evaluation and selection process. Three basic factors must be evaluated for a given candidate systems safety, design and economics.
