Abstract

The European Union is developing transport networks outline plans. Users, operators, industrialists and public authorities require guidelines for the implementation of interconnected and interoperable traffic management systems on the Trans-European Road Network (TERN). This paper examines the state of the art, presents the very recent recommendations to the European Union made by an international group of experts mandated by CEC/DG VII and stresses the need of closer international cooperation and concerted implementation plan.
