Abstract

The guidelines describe the conditions for type approval of waterproofing materials and systems for use on concrete bridges in Denmark. Two possibilities exist, i.e. approval of materials for waterproofing systems described in the general specifications for waterproofing of bridges (AAB), and approval of new systems. The applicant shall apply for approval from the Committee for Type Approval of Materials for Waterproofing of Bridges (BTU). Together with the application, a detailed description of the material orsystem shall be forwarded. The BTU will then ask the Danish Road Institute or other approved laboratory to estimate the necessary extent of tests to judge whether the material or system will stand up to the performance specification in AAB. The applicant will then be given a rough estimate of the cost of the examination. If this is accepted, and the test result show that the performance specifications possibly will be fulfilled, the applicant will be asked to use his material or system on a small bridge in orderto judge the application properties. If the work is succesful too, a type approval will be issued. It is possible to have a limited approval valid for a single task only. In this case all the information about the system shall also be given, and a limited number of tests will be carried out. In the appendix all tests used at present are listed which are carried out on waterproofing materials. (Author/publisher)
