Abstract

70 years ago the Frenchman Leveau had his invention of safety belts registered at the patent-office in Paris. His supposition that at low speeds from 30 km onwards a restraint system is necessary is proved to be right. Results are discussed of research done by TNO on the biomechanics of safety belts and head rests.
