Abstract

The purpose of this booklet is to provide transport decision-makers and planners in Governments and international organizations with selected transport data in a manageable format, which can be conveniently consulted at any time. The booklet contains selected data on the transport sector of a large number of UNECE member countries. It compiles for each country the length of motorways and roads as well as rail lines and inland waterways. It also contains data on the vehicle fleet and rolling stock, traffic volume by mode and road accidents. Data refer to the year 2003. Where it is appropriate data for select previous years are presented for comparison. The majority of the data has been extracted from the UNECE’s Annual Bulletin of Transport Statistics for Europe and North America and Statistics of Road Traffic Accidents in Europe and North America. For definitions and further details, please refer to these publications. (Author/publisher)
