Abstract

The majority of pavement marking done today is reflectorized, painted striper on an asphaltic highway. It is this system which is referred in the discussion: why use beads? Discussed are bead types, bead gradations, bead coatings, application, evaluation and performance. As is said before: the best traffic control device is a bucket of paint and a handful of beads.
