Abstract

A driving simulator with moving base system built at VTI in Sweden is described. The simulator is primarily intended for vehicle handling studies and the simulation program is used to study the transient response of a medium-sized passenger car to a sinusoidal steering input for validation. The theoretical model describes a car with four wheels, nonlinear tyre characteristics and semi-static load transfers. An approximate representation of the engine data is also presented.
