Abstract

This article discusses the publication of 'Traffic in Towns' in 1963.The message of this report was essentially that in facing up to the then emerging difficulties of coping with the car in urban areas, tough choices would be required. This article describes in detail what happened after the original report was released; the changes which have occurred in the interim; what changes have been implemented on our road and transport networks; and attempts to reduce traffic.
