Abstract

It is generally impossible, in accidents which involve head impact, to reconstruct the precise loading and acceleration to which the head is subjected. For this reason the study of water impact offers a useful source of additional data. The purpose of this paper is to present data from earlier studies of falls into water, in a form which shows how the probability of brain damage is related to the peak acceleration and the head injury criterion.
