Abstract

This paper considers the overall problem of head injuries resulting from road traffic accidents. The mechanism of head injuries and the development of human tolerance criteria is briefly discussed. An accident sample of fatally and seriously injured tow- wheeled motor vehicle (TWMV) riders is examined. Data on the performance of the riders' helmets and the nature of the riders' head injuries are presented.
