Abstract

A new proposed approach to describing the performance a driver experiences during nighttime driving from headlamps is described. This approach includes data such as luminous flux, range and illumination values but also includes the definition of side illumination by means of level and lateral spread definition based on physiological investigations. To give a new definition of the amount of light that is available on the street, the covered street surface is calculated. A bird's eye view of headlamp light distribution provides improved information quality. Comfort performance evaluation is discussed in terms of visualisation of real street scenery, measured illuminance on the street and homogeneity ratings. For the covering abstract see ITRD E123380.
