Over 40 different combinations of splash and spray reduction devices on five different tractors and three van trailer types were tested. These devices consisted of flexible fiber skirting, spray flaps made up of "astroturf" on a flat plastic backing, and aerodynamic fairings mounted on cab roofs. Results indicate a complex relationship among treatments, presence or absence of an aerodynamic fairing, and vehicle types. Wind direction and velocity are among the factors that contribute to the inherent variability of measurements of spray cloud density.
