Abstract

Work Package 1 of the HeavyRoute project deals with the development of a concept and architecture for a scheme to support, manage, and guide heavy goods vehicles in Europe. Based on an assessment of the "state of the art" in the heavy goods vehicle sector and in a number of European countries, it defines user and stakeholder functional and non-functional requirements for the elements of such an "intelligent heavy vehicle management and guidance system", from the perspective of fleet operators, drivers, service providers and road authorities/operators. Its outputs are interacting with the two technical work packages focusing on underlying databases and guidance system design (WP2: Databases and vehicle/infrastructure interaction models; and WP3: Route guidance and driver support) and with the work package on clustering, dissemination and implementation (WP6). Within WP1 objectives, the D1.1 part A deliverable is covering Task 1.1 aiming at assessing the state-of-the-art in fleet management and truck guidance systems/services, and the D1.1 part B deliverable is covering Task 1.3 aiming at identifying system concepts oriented on expected user requirements. State of the art analysis is largely based on a literature review by HeavyRoute partners of projects, systems, technologies and services with different levels of maturity, either already available on the market or still in Research & Development phase within National, EC or International R&D Program. State of the art covers the following domains: Logistic systems, including fleet management, route guidance and planning, and truck-specific map data; Traffic and infrastructure management systems, dealing with the infrastructure from its construction to its maintenance and management, as well as with traffic management; ADAS systems for trucks, presenting technologies and their application for driver assistance; Other topics including evaluations and assessments, and environmental issues. Regarding progress beyond state of the art, HeavyRoute contribution is clearly stated in this report with respect to innovation and standardisation in the above mentioned domains, and also the complementarities with some other relevant activities.
