Abstract

Statistical results are presented about an enquiry about mistaking a single lane road for a double lane road. It is shown that this error is more frequent, even with experienced drivers and on well-known roads, than is commonly accepted. Regional difference could lead to the conclusion that road design is a factor involved results indicate that this phenomenon may account for a number of serious and hither to unsolved accidents. More investigations are required.
