This paper evaluates the results of three studies on elderly drivers, one of which involved the drivers completing the same questionnaire after a four year period. This enabled comparison between drivers' predictions of their future behaviour and their actual behaviour. The predictions were generally accurate. Determinants of reduction in driving were found to have more to do with physical health than age. In the laboratory, physiological tests were found to give better predictions than psychological ones. The author suggests that more clarity is needed about what the tests should predict in order to get a useful result.
