Abstract

Since long times is known that alcohol is an important factor in traffic accidents. By different ways is tried to prevent driving while influenced a.o. by more police enforcement or higher penalties. This approach has had only little success and the same little effect was for technical equipments as the coupling of the ignition or the steering of a car to measurements of alcohol use. More success is obtained in information programs and rehabilitation. One of those programs, The Alcohol Project in Phoenix, Arizona, is discussed here.
