Abstract

For the home to work trip the choice-traveller mostly chooses the train (70-95%) when his work is within a short walking distance from a trainstation. Good local public transport expands the area of train-preference significantly: Bus 36 in The Hague (every 5 min in the peak) also has a train-stimulating function: average walking-distances 1 km longer, the bus has no role within 1500 m from the station, the percentage of train-choosers at that point is 80% of that near the station, at 2 km 75% and at 3 km 50%.
