Abstract

Freight transport is to a large extent dependent upon economic developments. In the short run, economic growth is the main cause for growth in transport. It should be noticed however, that not only the level of growth is important, the composition of this growth is even more important for freight transport. Growth of the service sector has less implications for freight transport than growth in the chemical sector. The coming years will be marked by uncertainty.
