The article starts with some statistics on road accidents, depicting the relative risk for moped riders in general and young ones in particular. Of all people killed in traffic in 1977/78 17% were in the 15/19 years age bracket. Within this group 41% had been riding a moped. The author concludes with some proposals: technical improvements of the vehicles, the provision of separated bicycle-cum-moped tracks outside the built-up areas and much more attention to education, both at school and otherwise.
