The decision-making arena around sustainable traffic management. There is a growing interest in an area-based approach to transport issues. For infrastructure-related traffic problems the sustainable traffic management method is very popular. This approach requires cooperation between organisations at different government levels, which means increased complexity in the work of the transport professional. This CVS-contribution describes the decision-making arena in which the transport professional operates. Both this paper and the contribution of Ronald van Meggelen and Fred Meerhof deal with an ongoing study about the approach to public management and organisational issues in sustainable traffic management.
