The REMI-model - New insights into indirect impacts of transport policy In the year 2000 new guidelines for Cost-Benefit Analysis have been adopted in The Netherlands: the so-called OEEI guidelines. In these guidelines a.distinction is made between direct, indirect and external impacts of a measure or project. In practice, most discussions are about the size of indirect impacts as the impacts on the real estate and labour market. ECORYS is developing a Dutch version of the REMI model that can be used for estimating the economic impacts of measures and projects. It is a so-called spatial equilibrium model that estimates impacts at the regional and national level. In this paper we describe the model functions and illustrate the possibilities by giving a fictive example. The main advantage of the model is that all impacts are calculated in a dynamic and integrative way. Furthermore, the input and output of the model is extremely user friendly. We conclude that the REMI model offers a clear added value to existing methods and techniques for estimating indirect impacts of transport policies and infrastructure projects. (Author/publisher)
