Abstract

When statistical check methods with random sampling techniques are used, large areas of the road will remain unchecked. A small improvement can be achieved by using systematic sampling, but even then the main disadvantage will remain: not a single type of sampling can give a full quality guarantee. Therefore a 100% check should be used. Nowadays several of these methods are under development. Special attention is paid to the compactometer. This instrument is mounted on the roller and shows continuously the degree of compaction already achieved. Without any interruption the compaction can go on till the required degree of compaction has been attained.
