Abstract

The starting point of the article is that traffic is a good human activity, which has at the moment however too large a degree of risk: lack of safety, air pollution, noise, psychical stress and a bad body bearing. Road users can hardly withdraw from these risks individually. Because the disadvantages are not acceptable, they have to be referred back to those who are responsible for the traffic system and its components. Some technical possibilities to decrease this lack of safety are discussed. These must be included in a national plan for research, evaluation and implementation. Because a great degree of social agreement can exist on this subject, it can be expected that many organizations and persons are willing to cooperate.
