Basic objective of the Groningen circulation plan is finding a solution for the present problems within the existing space available. This is clearly demonstrated by the shift from the 1966/67 plan for the city centre towards the new concept which makes much more use of the existing street pattern. A definite preference for space saving modes like bicycle, moped and public transport marks the plan as a whole. Public transport will also play an important, i.e. competitive role in the future accessibility of the Noorddijk extension.
