Abstract

Attracting motorist to a nature transfer point: the role of visitor surveys and traffic monitoring The popularity of recreational use of national parks and protected areas is growing. Especially since most people arrive by car, the increasing number of visitors can impact natural resources as well as the quality of visitor experience. To limit car usage within the areas, nature transfer points are developed. Main goal is to concentrate cars (and visitors) in less vulnerable parts. Accurate knowledge of visitor numbers and activities along with information on their needs and motivations are required for a successful implementation of a nature transfer point. A visitor survey and traffic monitoring can provide this information and are therefor useful in improving a transfer point. (Author/publisher)
