A railway line in a town plan is often considered a disturbing elements by town planners. However, studies have shown a distinct correlation between the number of people attracted by a station and the distance from that station to the buildings from which traffic originates. This is, therefore, a justifiable reason for running a railway line through the centre of built-up areas. Besides, research reveals that automatic railway barriers, in most cases do not results in longer waiting periods for red lights than for those on a road-crossing with traffic signals.
