Abstract

Statement on the policy on fighting rat-run traffic and definition. Causes and effects. The author specifies various counter-measures both in the field of traffic engineering and by erecting traffic signs. A study projects shows that the latter is quite cheap and very successful if a certain level of enforcement can be maintained (rat-run traffic decreases by 80 to 95%). Where alternative roads are available enforcement is not really necessary.
