Abstract

The Highway Safety Research Center of the University of North Carolina has been a leader in the development of seat belt incentive projects, In an attempt to give more visibility to such projects the Center has worked with a number of North Carolina high schools. This report describes 1985-1986 activity that led to program development at eight additional North Carolina high.schools. Passage of a mandatory belt use law does not signify the end of incentive programs. Efforts like these will still be needed to increase belt use rates.
