Abstract

The highway classification and design standard for the Asian Highway, as approved by the Asian highway Co-ordinating Committee meetings held in October, 1968 and November, 1969 are given. Among the factors influencing the recommendations are the composition, nature and volume of anticipated traffic, the level of service to be provided, the type of topography, the climatic variations, the high cost of construction through rugged terrain, the principles of highway safety and the necessity for standards applicable to stage construction.
