Abstract

A coding system compatible with the Experimental Route System (ERGS) concept has been devised for application to over four million highway intersections of the contiguous United States. The derivation of this coding system involved: suitability for hardware implementation, acceptability to the general driving public, and capability for the ancillary functions of highway data record files generation and processing. In addition, computer programming of an optimal route determination algorithm was accomplished.
