Abstract

The aim of this book is to provide a comprehensive presentation about the interrelationships between highway design, driving behaviour, driving dynamics and traffic safety. The book is organised around three important highway engineering parts. Part 1: Network, Part 2 Alignment and Part 3 Cross sections. Based on original research and data amassed over more than two decades in different continents, this book presents vital criteria for safe design and shows how to best achieve roads with the lowest possible accident risk and severity rates.
