Abstract

A brief historical introduction to the highway hypnosis is given. The way in which the phenomenon has manifested itself in two fatal accident cases is described and the different types of relevant evidence for the phenomenon are summarized. Certain areas that need to be pursued if any progress should be made towards understanding the implications of highway hypnosis for road safety, are identified.
