Abstract

This international edition has been developed from the guidelines published in 1986 (see IRRD 804618), to revise this publication and incorporate ideas from other countries. The publication is intended to act as a guide to what can be done to tackle the problem of road accidents by specific highway engineering techniques, Chapters cover: setting overall objectives and quantified targets; staff and financial resources; technical procedures and data requirements; accident reduction by specific engineering measures; liaison and publicity; monitoring and evaluation; accident prevention and safety principles, including a formal safety audit procedure.
