Abstract

This Transportation Research Record contains 18 papers concerned with various aspects of highway safety. Specific topics discussed include the following: speeding and traffic law enforcement in Saudi Arabia; speed limits; red light cameras; proneness to red light violation; alcohol prohibition; repeat users of methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA) and marijuana; risk perception training for novice drivers; driving behavior of university students in Kuwait; sustainable safety in the Netherlands; road safety audits; safety-conscious planning in practice; Houston, Texas, traffic safety planning; major transportation accidents in Norway; commercial motor vehicle safety technology surveys; wind forces on heavy truck stability; roadside inspection selection system; and motorcycles on tangent sections of expressways. The 2006 series of the Transportation Research Record: Journal of the Transportation Research Board consists of approximately 820 papers selected from 2,800 submissions after rigorous peer review. The peer review for each paper published in this volume was coordinated by the sponsoring committee acknowledged at the end of the text; members of the sponsoring committees for the papers in this volume are listed on page II.
