Highway safety progress as reflected in accident data.

Abstract

In considering highway and motor vehicle safety progress since 1966, the estimates by the National Safety Council of fatalities, per mile of vehicle travel, population and registration are analyzed. Comparisons of the effectiveness of individual safety systems are made and benefits described. Recommendations are made in the area of mass accident data collection and vehicle, driver, road contributions in the present day driving situation.
