Abstract

More than 1100 pedal cycle deaths each year for the last 2 years have focussed national attention on the growing bicycle safety problem. The Highway Safety Act of 1973 requires that bicycle safety provisions be incorporated into highway safety standards. Further education of the motoring public regarding bicycle use and potential for conflict will be necessary as well training bicyclists to ride in a reasonable and predictable way.
