Abstract

This CD-ROM outlines techniques and ideas available for the management, maintenance and development of the motorway and trunk road network and its integration with other modes of transport. The Toolkit provides many useful methods through which an integrated transport system can become reality. It uses techniques which are simple as well as some that are technologically advanced; some can be implemented cheaply, some are more costly. The Toolkit is a useful reference for any local authority or traffic engineer. The four main themes addressed by the Toolkit are: (1) supporting an integrated environment; (2) recognizing environmental needs; (3) making the most of the network, and (4) improving road safety.
