Abstract

This paper discusses the various requirements both on the highway and for public transport with consideration of the needs of disabled people.It deals with design standards for movement, parking, crossing facilities, public transport, etc., and discusses the current legislation.It also looks at information and publicity and the influence that the local authority engineer can exert for the benefit of disabled people when dealing with road openings, development applications and construction consents.
