Abstract

Housing areas do not automatically result in an high level of services, including commercial and non commercial services. Research has led to the conclusions that the number of services in a new built quarter in a density of 25 dwellings per hectare, is almost the same as in 60 dwellings per hectare. But in case of high density, much more services are at walking distance. It is concluded that high density projects do not always result in high levels of services. Urban structure, the traffic structure, legal possibilities, costs etc. should be taken into account.
