Abstract

This paper describes research for the most influential factors on car availability. For this purpose a large database was adapted (the Dutch National Travel Survey of 1979). By using cluster/segmentation- analysis, the significant variables were selected. Net personal income turned out to be the most important one, followed by age, sex and position in household. This knowledge was used to construct homogenous population-groups with respect to car availability.
