Abstract

Since it has become compulsory in the Netherlands for moped riders to wear a crash helmet, and due to the fact that a crash helmet is worn by nearly all moped riders, the percentage of moped accident victims with head injuries has shown a strong decrease. This conclusion follows a study of the descriptions of head injuries among the cyclists and moped riders involved in accidents who were treated at the University Hospital in Groningen in the period from 1970 untill the end of 1979.
