Abstract
Traffic accidents are registered by the police and published by the Central Bureau for Statistics. Registering only the dead is not sufficient because that gives a restricted picture of reality. The slightly injured also do not give a proper indication. Therefore it is very important to have a good registration of the badly wounded.The author compared the police registration with the medical statistics and records of the hospitals. The level of registration by the police is in the order og 83% and this is high enough to trace developments in road safety.
