Abstract

In order to improve the understanding of the problems of supply and demand for public transport services to and within various residential locations in Delhi, extensive household surveys in two differing middle income communities were undertaken. The locations chosen differed from those of previous studies in being considerably closer to the city centre. Data were obtained of socioeconomic characteristics of households together with data on household and per capita daily trip rates. In addition, details of trips were collected so that modal choice, distance travelled and time spent travelling could be compared. Attitudes of household heads towards public transport services supplied by the Delhi transport corporation were also obtained. Public transport supply characteristics both of conventional modes and unconventional paratransit modes were also collected. This report describes the results of the surveys. (Author/publisher)
