Abstract

This conference presentation provides a brief overview of some of the major elements of the Seattle HOV system and its future plans. The core system is comprised of approximately 50 miles of HOV lanes. Some 273 lane miles are planned by 2000. To date, nearly $500 million has been spent on HOV treatments in the region; future funding is somewhat uncertain. This conference was conducted by the Transportation Research Board, National Research Council, Municipality of Metropolitan Seattle and Washington State Department of Transportation in cooperation with the Federal Highway Administration and the Urban Mass Transportation Administration.
