Abstract

Suggesting that a patient stop driving is never easy, yet taking no action may result in deadly consequences. Open communication with the patient and the family in the office setting can help physicians assess risk for a driving accident. The physician can then decide if further assessment and perhaps rehabilitation will benefit the patient. Working with the family and involving community resources to secure alternative forms of transportation may also be needed. (A)
